O Skid Row foi formado em 1986 por Dave Sabo (guitarra) e Rachel Bolan (baixo). Sebastian Bach assumiria os vocais, Scotti Hill na guitarra e Rob Affuso a bateria, o nome foi comprado de uma banda de rock irlandesa, surgida em 1967, que gravou dois álbuns, em 1970 e 1971, um de seus integrantes foi Gary Moore que tocou com o grupo Thin Lizzy. O nome foi comprado por cerca de 35 mil dólares.

Já no ano seguinte, 1987, a banda começa a ganhar prestígio e Jon Bon Jovi, outro roqueiro líder da famosa banda Bon Jovi, também de Nova Jérsei, amigo de infância de Dave "The Snake" Sabo, consegue arranjar um contrato com a gravadora Atlantic Records para a banda. O álbum de estréia do grupo viria em 1989 com o mesmo nome da banda. Este disco trouxe dois dos maiores hits do ano, "18 and life" e a balada "I Remember You".

"I Remember You" é uma das baladas de hard-rock/heavy metal mais conhecida do mundo e, uma das mais belas. Comparada a tantas baladas boas que temos, ela se difere por não ser triste ou tã triste quanto outras a exemplo de "Just Take my Heart" do Mr. Big, uma puta duma bela música com letra triste.
